Description Banisteriopsis caapi ‘Cielo’, also known as heavenly ayahuasca or sky ayahausca. Even though Cielo is a yellow ayahuasca, within the indigenous community true Cielo is regarded to be more spiritual than the common yellow ayahuasca. Banisteriopsis caapi, commonly known as the Ayahuasca vine, is a perennial tropical liana native to the Amazon rainforest. This woody climbing vine belongs to the Malpighiaceae family and is traditionally used throughout South America in spiritual and healing ceremonies. The plant produces long, twisting stems with opposite pairs of glossy green leaves and clusters of small, pale pink to white flowers. The ayahuasca plant in its natural habitat, grows 30-40m in length up trees and other plants for support. You will need to provide a strong support for your ayahuasca vine, or allow it to grow up a sturdy tree if your local climate is suitable for growing outdoors. The name ayahuasca means “vine of the soul” in Quechuan. Revered as a sacred plant in Amazonian cultures, Banisteriopsis caapi is valued for its role in traditional medicine and ethnobotany. It is an important symbol of connection between nature and spirit, representing growth, healing, and introspection. There are two scientifically accepted varieties of Banisteriopsis caapi: Banisteriopsis caapi var. caupuri Banisteriopsis caapi var. tucunacá (tukunaka) The caupuri variety has big knots in the stems that make it very distinguishable. The caapi we are all mainly familiar with, due to availability, is the Tucunacá variety, this caapi comes in a variety of “colours”, known as strains. Common name. Caapi; Yage; Yaje; Black Ayahuasca; Vine of the Dead; Vine of the Soul; Bejuco de Oro. Specifications. 50mm Pot Size Cutting Grown Plant Ideal Growing Conditions. The Ayahuasca vine is a sub-tropical to tropical plant that prefers humid conditions and consistently moist, but free draining soil. However, with care, it can grow in colder climates by growing indoors or providing a microclimate. Requires a climbing frame. Pruning: Light pruning is recommended to manage its size and encourage branching, especially when grown in pots or small spaces. Trim back any leggy or dead growth to promote healthy new growth. Pests and Diseases: Banisteriopsis caapi are typically not prone to serious pest infestations, however monitor your plant for pests like aphids, scale or spider mites. Treat infestations promptly with insecticidal soap, Eco Oil or Neem Oil Soil: You need a high quality potting mix, not a pre-bagged product such as you find at Bunnings etc, try a landscaping place. However, as I am not local to you I still can’t say if they have good quality or not. You are looking for well composted pine bark and large particles. This ensures air flow to the roots and good drainage. When time to re-pot, select a pot one size up ONLY and ensure it has many holes for good drainage. Fertiliser: We recommend and use Yates Nutricote Standard Black 270 Day Controlled Release Fertiliser however any good quality slow release fertiliser will do. We also stock an Australian Made liquid indoor fertiliser The Plant Runner Indoor Plant Food which is easy to use and odourless We cannot send plants to Western Australia & Tasmania due to restrictions. We cannot ship this species Internationally. We strongly recommended to select Express Post shipping for all plant orders to minimise the transit time. Interested in Banisteriopsis plants?
