Description Artemisia vulgaris plants, known as Mugwort, is a herbaceous perennial that grows up to 1.5m in height and spans 0.7m. Mugwort has an extensive rhizome system, rather than depending on seed dispersal, it spreads through vegetative expansion and the anthropogenic dispersal of root rhizome fragments. For many centuries, Artemisia vulgaris, commonly known as Mugwort, has been mainly used for treating gynaecological ailments and gastrointestinal diseases. It is said that Mugwort may be useful to stimulate digestion, bring on a normal menstrual flow and to help expel intestinal worms. The dried leaves are often smoked or drunk as a tea to promote lucid dreaming. This supposed dream-enhancing effect is reported to be due to the thujone contained in the plant. In India the species is used for its antispasmodic, larvicide, anthelmintic and stomachic properties. Artemisia vulgaris has also been associated with various cultural and folklore beliefs. In some traditions, it’s believed to have protective properties and is used in rituals for purification and warding off negative energies. Mugwort is a hardy herb that grows prefers well-drained soils but can thrive in poor, dry conditions. It prefers partial sun, at least 6-8 hours daily, and tolerates drought, and coastal fringes. The roots are perennial and generally survive cold winters, even if the leafy stems die down or succumb to frost. Water lightly—only when soil is dry. Avoid overwatering to prevent root rot.
