Description Anadenanthera colubrina var. cebil, commonly known as Cebil or Vilca, is a South American tree native to regions of Argentina, Bolivia, Paraguay, Peru, and parts of Brazil. It belongs to the Fabaceae (legume) family and is closely related to Anadenanthera peregrina. This deciduous tree can grow 6–20 metres tall depending on climate and soil conditions. It develops a spreading canopy and distinctive rough, fissured bark. The leaves are finely bipinnate, giving a soft, fern-like appearance, while the tree produces cream to pale yellow spherical flower clusters typical of many leguminous species. Flat seed pods follow flowering and contain several hard, dark seeds. Cebil is well adapted to subtropical and dry forest regions and tolerates seasonal drought once established. It prefers full sun and well-drained soils. As a legume, it has nitrogen-fixing capabilities, helping improve soil fertility in suitable environments. Historically, the seeds of this variety have played an important role in certain Indigenous South American traditions. Anadenanthera colubrina var. cebil is an important tree species for its cultural, economic, and medicinal uses in South America. Traditionally used by Indians of Argentina and southern Peru as an hallucinogenic snuff, it is also used in small amounts for headaches and colds. The tree has also been valued for its durable hardwood, which has been used in construction, tools, and fuel. Specifications. 50mm Pot Size Seed Grown Plant Ideal Growing Conditions.
